Nigerian President Umara Yar’Adua’s return raises questions
President Umaru Yar’Adua’s return to Nigeria late on Wednesday, February 24 prompted a barrage of questions about why he left, and his ability to govern, moving forward.
The Daily Independent outlined the details surrounding the President’s return.
Nigerians have responded to the news of his return with cynicism and suspicion, it seems. According to Robyn Dixon of the LA Times, one newspaper headline read, ‘He is back…How doctors packaged him with enhanced fit-to-travel re-chargeable batteries. Online, Nigerians have been quick to express their cynicism on the matter, with some saying that they want to see the president. In short, they want to know if their prodigal President is fit to lead. Literally.
