New Orleans’ Culture of Resistance

Welcome back HfH’ers!

August 29, marked the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and the Flood, which literally crushed the city of New Orleans. On our upcoming show on Monday, September 6, you can listen to Christabel Nsiah-Buadi’s conversation with Jordan Flaherty, New Orleans based activist, and author of the new book, Floodlines: Community and Resistance from Katrina to the Jena 6

As a prelude to the interview, watch this video, produced by Christabel in 2006, when she reported from the flood-ravaged region, one year, after the flood.

(BTW — if you are wondering what’s happening with our radio shows, fret not! Better still, look out for a big announcement in the coming in the next two weeks!)

See you on Monday — and Happy Labor Day to our US crew!

Heavy Rotation: The Girl From Guantanamo

…also known as ‘Guantanamera’. It’s one of the most famous songs to come out of Cuba, a song that has been covered a thousand times, made famous by Celia Cruz. You know how to sing most of it, but do you know what it’s about, and where it comes from? LA Based music producer, Yaro Celis has more, in our very own music show, ‘Heavy Rotation‘.

In the meantime, keep visiting our website, or following our show host, Christabel Nsiah-Buadi on Facebook to find out the latest in African Diaspora news. We have new shows coming up shortly, and some exciting announcements about our broadcast partnerships!
